(From the Four Cs)

Color is based on the naturally occurring color of a diamond, which ranges from colorless to yellowish. This should not be confused with fancy-colored diamonds, such as blue, pink, or green diamonds. While some of those are naturally occuring, others are man-made or treated with radiation to create the color.

Color range is rated by a lettering system as noted below, starting with D, which is colorless.

Colorless Range
Diamonds graded D through F are naturally the most valuable given their rarity.
Near Colorless Range
Diamonds graded G though I show virtually no color that is visble to the untrained eye.

Faint Yellow
Diamonds graded J show just a hint of color to the naked eye.

Diamonds graded K through M increase in their amber/yellow hue. This can often be minimized by mounting the stones in yellow gold.

Light Yellow
Diamonds graded N through Z have noticable hues.
